Somerset Landscape Character Assessment

LUC was commissioned in June 2024 to prepare a Landscape Character Assessment for the Somerset Council Local Plan area. It draws upon, and provides an update to, the previous landscape character assessments for the former districts of Mendip, Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane, West Somerset, and South Somerset.

The Landscape Character Assessment identifies and explains the unique combination of elements and features that make the landscapes of Somerset distinctive. It will help guide positive change, ensuring that the inherent character and qualities of Somerset’s landscape can continue to be appreciated.
