This Landscape Character Assessment includes a new landscape classification for the whole of Somerset, excluding the area of Exmoor National Park. It identifies and explains the unique patterns of geology, topography, vegetation, and human influences that make the landscapes of Somerset distinctive. The Landscape Character Assessment comprises 26 Landscape Character Types, for which key sensitivities, valued features and relevant management guidelines are identified. The Somerset Landscape Character Assessment is part of a hierarchy of Landscape Character Assessment information cascading down from the national to the local level, and takes into consideration a number of other studies, strategies and guidance produced by Somerset Council and other organisations.
